End of Third Month

Well, things really took a change this March, didn't they?

As far as Depth Year goes, I don't think this is making it any easier or harder, really.   And since Depth Year is (at least to me) about stuff and things, not budget, I have been diverting the money I got refunded from my canceled trip to Puerto Rico to helping support my favorite local bars and restaurants.  I already talked about donations clearly being exempt, and I'm putting gift cards to help keep my favorite Brooklyn locales from closing permanently under the same banner.  I've also increased the number of artists I'm supporting on Patreon, too.  I feel like I'm in a very privileged position, and while I can't give to every single cause, I feel like that at least the money I was going to spend on a private vacation could be diverted to help others out.

And since food and drink were never a part, I'm also diverting more money to spend even more at my favorite local butcher, who has just gotten their license to sell wine! Hurray!

The only other splurge this month has been on grooming and self-care items.  Having run out of cotton pads and mouthwash, I allowed myself a drug store run a couple of weeks ago and splurged on some sheet masks (I was completely out of all sorts of facial masks); maybe not exactly necessary, but good skin care is important, even if hardly anyone's seeing my face in person.

The only other point is the gardening.  I had just last month discussed buying plants and seeds for the garden and deciding that fell under essentials, and all things considered, being able to grow some of my own food right about now sounds like a good idea.  There was a last run to the hardware store before non-essential businesses were to shutter in NY (though I didn't realize at the time that hardware stores would be considered essential anyway...), to pick up potting soil, and, as all the compost was sold out, a few big bags of garden soil for in-ground use. Hopefully that will due in place of my normal 100lbs of organic compost that I work in to the two long row beds every year.

I did have a dream about shopping, though.  I had a very pleasant dream where I was leisurely browsing and looking at things.  Who knew that would be one of the first things my subconscious would miss!
