End of 11th Month
11 months down and only one more month to go! I've even made it past the temptations of Black Friday - Cyber Monday sales! More surprising to me, is that I don't have a list of items I'm waiting to buy on January 1st. I had thought that by now I would have been delaying so many purchases for so long that I'd be antsy to "spend-spend-spend!" But instead I'm feeling rather chill about it. I think it's definitely adjusted my overall attitude about using consumerism as a coping device for anxiety and depression.
I did make a new purchase this month, that I had been waffling over for a few weeks now. My electric kettle that I use to make my tea several times a day had sprung a leak. Every time I depressed the "ON" tab, a small amount of water would leak out. Also, I was starting to find increasingly larger puddles on the counter around it overnight. I finally decided that this was a good enough reason to get a new kettle, and dispose of the leaky one.
I did also ask for a somewhat specific Christmas gift from the S/O, which is not usual for me. As COVID continues, and isolation and working from home are for sure going to continue through the winter, now, I asked for some fleece-lined leggings, not the kind that go under your clothes like thermals, but more like lounge wear. I haven't owned anything like a pair of fuzzy sweat pants ever as an adult. The yoga pants I had mentioned back in End of Fifth Month are getting even more holes, and are already so thin that they're too chilly to wear around the house - and winter weather hasn't even fully set in yet! So, when asking me how he should approach Christmas with my Depth Year, I suggested cute, warm, fleece-lined leggings I could wear when working from home. I do try and not live entirely in my flannel pajamas, but it's been getting tempting!
Speaking of, I had already mentioned that gifts for others wouldn't count, knowing I'd have to cross Christmas once on my way around the calendar. I've got a few recipes I'm thinking of making a few chosen folks for gifts that ship well, and have found items for most of my family. Hopefully December will be so focused on those that I'll sail right past the end of the year with little difficulty!
I'm thinking 2021 might just continue into Depth Year Round 2: 75% (allowing myself either a small budget, or something like 1 non-essential purchase a month. Staying at home has definitely taken the stress off wanting to buy things like make-up (HA!) or other items that largely only came into play when going to the office or going out in general. I figure even with the rushed vaccine production, it will have to go through the tiers of medical support, first responders, critical/at risk patients and age groups, and maybe even a few other groups of people before it gets to "We now have enough for everyone, come and get it!" I think, even being optimistically, it will be spring, or close to it, before it's my turn.
